2018 Backpacking Weekend at Perry Lake

The troop will be heading to Perry Lake early Friday Evening May 4 and camping at the Slough Creek Group 2 campsite.  Saturday morning we get up early and hit the trail to the Longview Group Campsite.  After campfire Saturday Night we will hit the sack and get up early again to finish the trail on Sunday.  You will need to eat early or bring a sack dinner for Friday.  We will be braking into crews and each crew will be planning and bringing backpacking meals. (Saturday Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks and Dinner and Sunday Breakfast, Snacks and Lunch).

 

First Year scouts will be carrying their snacks, lunch, water and rain gear.  Second and Third Years scouts are encouraged to carry as much as their clothing, sleeping bag, cooking gear and food as appropriate for their backpack and strength.  Fourth Years and older are encouraged to carry it all, including their tent.

 

We will be portaging the minimal gear, tents and food that will not be carried by scouts and adults to Saturday's campsite.  To make this feel like a real back woods campsite we want to keep cars out of Saturday's camp site so please don't plan on having your car at the Longview camp site.

 

Don't go out a buy gear or backpacks (other than personal rain gear and hiking boots/shoes).  The troop has plenty of loaner backpacks...just let Bob Hyland know ahead of time.  The Troop Web site is packed with information about back packing, packing light and light weight meal ideas.
