Spring Backpacking Trip at Perry Lake 2021

Early Saturday morning Feb 27 to Sunday afternoon Feb 28th Backpacking!
Troop 118 is planning to backpack the east shore of lake Perry at the end of February.  We will be watching the weather and if too cold will Day hike and set a later date for the backpacking trip.   We will be hiking as crews (usually 8 to 12 individuals).  Two Philmont crews are set but we need to organize additional crews so please e-mail Bob Hyland [email protected]  and Scott Shorter shorter.scott@gmail.com if you plan to attend.  We will be meeting at 7:45AM Saturday at the Slough Creek Public Use area.  Due to COVID we will not carpool as a troop but families are free to organize carpools themselves.  We will hike to the Longview Public Use area on Saturday, camp there for the evening and hike to the north trailhead on Sunday.

To find our starting point you can search “Slough Creek Public Use Area” on google maps or apple maps.  Check it out and let me know if this doesn’t work for you.  We will be sending out a map of our exact meeting point later this month.  The cost of the trip will be $20, the permission slip will be on the web site and all participants will need to record their temperature for 7 days prior to the trip.

The Philmont crews will carry all their gear but younger scouts will only carry what is appropriate for their size, age and backpack.  A day pack to carry lunch, water and rain gear and a sturdy pair of walking shoes or boots is all that is needed.  All remaining gear, extra blankets, food and water will be stored in the troop trailer and deposited at our camping spot.
